Spring Reading Conference

The Broward Reading Conference is sponsoring a Spring Reading Conference on Saturday April 30, from 8:30 to 12:30pm at Nova High School, Davie, Florida.

The Keynote Speaker will be Enrique Puig, co-author of  The Literacy Coach: Guiding in the Right Direction and the 2004-2009 Director of Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence Center, FLARE. There will be more some 18 breakout sessions.

Americorps Mentor Program


Interested in serving as a MENTOR for at risk middle school and high school age students.

You may be eligible to receive a scholarship for $1,132.00 or $1,415.00.

The requirements:
- Must Be 18
- US Citizen of Lawful Permanent Resident
- High School Graduate
- Complete Background Check
- Attend orientation and monthly meetings
- Complete 300 or 450 hours of service by December 31, 2011

TEP Important Updates!


1.       An additional section of EEX3103 (Language and Communication Disorders) has been opened for Session 3.
This class will be on Central campus on M/W from 11:00am-2:50pm—a great day time option!


2.       An additional section of EEX4293 (Assessment and Instructional Strategies in ESE) has been opened for Session 3.
This class will be on South campus on T/Th from 12:00pm-3:50pm—a great day time option!


3.       ALL Field Experience paperwork is due to the TEP office by April 26th, 2011
If you do not turn in the appropriate paperwork by the due date, your grade in the course may be affected!


4.       The Florida Teacher Certification Exam Workshop schedule has been updated!  Please see the schedule to be sure you attend on the correct day and at the correct time!

Professor Kelly Walker Awarded Professor of the Year!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

        Professor Kelly Walker, a full time Professor for the Teacher Education Program, was honored as Professor of the Year on Thursday, March 31st.   Professor Walker received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and her Master's degree in Special Education / Early Childhood Education from the University of Miami.  She is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Special Education Leadership.
    Ms. Walker worked for the School Board of Broward County as a general education teacher, an ESE teacher, and an ESE Specialist since 1999. She started with the Teacher Education Program in January of 2010 as an Adjunct Professor and became a full-time Professor in August of 2011. Professor Walker is also the Co-Advisor of Kappa Delta Pi, International Education Honor Society.  Though she stays incredibly busy she still shows that her priority is to be an active and enthusiastic partner in her students learning!

Congratulations, Professor Kelly Walker! We are lucky to have you as a part of our team!
