Job Description
|
Therapeutic Riding Instructor Interns will work directly with
Marie Lim along with other instructors. The lessons are supervised and
demonstrated by Marie Lim and assisted by a horse handler and side walkers.
Interns will learn the following:
1. Equine Therapy as an alternative therapy for those with special needs. 2. To use Equine Activities as a teaching aid for those with physical and/or mental disabilities. 3. Equine theory consisting of equine psychology, stable management, equine expenses and equine careers. 4. To teach our special needs students the following Equine Skills: • English, western and bareback riding. • How to feed, groom, handle, lead, side walk and round up the horses. • Saddle, wash, tack, pick their hoofs and trailer load. Requirements - • Learn HAPPI Farm’s procedures. • Learn extensive horsemanship and equine management. • Learn to work with a variety of special needs. • Possess supervisory and people management skills. Responsibilities - Intern will continually communicate with Mentor and assist Mentor with: • Implement individualized rider lesson plans, including goals and objectives. • Match riders with appropriate equines, equipment and instructional setting. • Delegate duties for volunteers assisting with the class. • Conduct lessons in a manner appropriate to individual needs (Mounting, dismounting, progression of skills, appropriate activities and games). • Provide and solicit ongoing feedback. • Document client activities and progress after each lesson. • Monitor instructional area and enforce safety procedures and rules. |

A partnership with NASA has allowed Brevard Schools to
offer 4 pre-service teachers an internship from June 1st – August 7th. Participants will work with us at the camp
June 8 – 30th and will spend the remaining time participating in professional
development at Kennedy Space Center.
Students will receive a $6000.00 stipend dispersed in 3 installments
throughout the experience. Any students
