It’s all in the Broward College Family

Lorrie Durkin, a 2007 graduate of Broward College’s Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) has taught kindergarten at Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School for the past three years. In a heartwarming twist of fate, one of her students this year is Josephine Vattiato, daughter of our education program’s Associate Dean Julia Vattiato. Not only does the program have successful graduates, but the Broward College family is entrusting its children to them with confidence. That’s a powerful endorsement.

The EPI is designed for people who have earned college degrees in a field other than education and want a fast-track to teaching. Durkin had been working in the legal field for more than two decades when she decided to follow her heart and become a teacher of young children. Prior to working at Nova she taught first grade at Hawkes Bluff Elementary for two years.
