Calling all teachers!
(and anyone who knows a teacher)
Spread the word! It's time to apply for our summer professional-development workshops about Florida. This is a great opportunity for teachers to learn at fascinating sites around the state about Colonial St. Augustine, Florida in the Civil War, Seminole traditions, Colonial Pensacola, and literary great Zora Neale Hurston. Application deadline for the Hurston seminar is March 4. The deadline for all others has been extended to March 29. Please share this! Details here.
Join us in Cedar Key
We’re Gathering in the quaint seaside haven of Cedar Key, March 15-17, for a cultural tour of this former fishing village and booming port town that now is a capital for clamming. Meet the resilient residents and enjoy the beauty of this jewel in the midst of a wildlife refuge. We have only a few spaces left, so register soon!

2013 Florida Writing Awards
Enid Shomer, a Tampa-based writer of poetry and fiction, has won the 2013 Florida Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing, a program we sponsor. Learn more about the writer and her work here. We’ll feature Shomer in our summer issue of FORUM magazine, along with this year’s Florida Book Award winners, which were just announced.

Speaking of Florida…
Bring a Florida speaker to your community. As we commemorate the 500th anniversary of Spanish explorer Ponce de León’s landing on Florida soil, our 2013 Speaker’s Bureau offers a roster of engaging presenters with new perspectives on our state’s Spanish heritage. Details.

Dreamers & Schemers
History will come alive on stage this year during our statewide roadshow, “Dreamers & Schemers: An Evening with Great Floridians.” Historical figures will describe their hopes for Florida—and for themselves. Check FloridaHumanities.org for show schedules.

Cool CDs still available
People are loving our CDs, which introduce a slice of Florida life they can’t get elsewhere: Songs and stories of pioneers with attitude and cowboys with latitude, of fisher folk who hunted the waters, of Everglades characters and Apalachicola oysterers. So, we’re still offering this special deal: CDs for $3 each (regularly $10). Shop here.
